Living in Spinnaker Point & Baypoint Lagoons

Two adjoining waterfront communities on the east side of San Rafael, sharing the tidal lagoon system that gives both neighborhoods their name and their quiet.

Spinnaker Point is the older of the two, built between the 1970s and the 1990s in a nautical New England idiom — townhomes and single-family homes on coves named for Nantucket, Plymouth, Falmouth, Duxbury, Gloucester, Salem and Rockport. It has a community pool and tennis courts, direct access to the bay path, and some of the lowest homeowners’ dues in Marin. Paddleboards and kayaks go in at the water’s edge.

Baypoint Lagoons came later, developed in the mid-to-late 1990s as a planned community of mostly three- and four-bedroom homes arranged around the lagoons and walkways. The association covers 193 homes, with a pool and spa. Contemporary construction is genuinely scarce in Marin, and this is some of it.
