Getting to know Daly City and South San Francisco
Two cities sit right on San Francisco’s southern edge, and people moving here often lump them in with the city itself. They are their own places, with their own school districts and their own weather. Daly City runs from the foggy planned tracts on the west side — Westlake Olympic and St. Francis Heights — across the crest at Top of the Hill and Hillside near the San Francisco line, to the hillside tracts of Serramonte, Southern Hills, and Crocker below San Bruno Mountain. Pointe Pacific is the gated hilltop community on the south side, mostly townhomes and condos with skyline views.
South San Francisco — South City, and a different city again — is sunnier through much of the year. Westborough is the far-west hillside district above 280 that borders Daly City; Sunshine Gardens, Winston Manor, and Orange Park, wrapped around Orange Memorial Park, are the central residential neighborhoods. Sign Hill sits below the landmark letters, and Paradise Valley and Terrabay climb the northeast slopes of San Bruno Mountain.
